For director Jorge Torres-Torres and alongside my partner, Costume & Art Director Amy Everson, I designed more than thirty costumes for the absolutely insane video for “The Ground Walks with Time in a Box.” To facilitate Amy’s brilliant vision, the two of us spent every waking moment for an entire month building kings made of trash, in addition to designing a group of ghoulish “gliders,” some heavenly angels, an artistic “kabuki” clan, and some gluttonous mummies. In the video, you can catch me overlooking lead singer Isaac as the leader of the gliders and gorging on frosting & chicken grease as a mummy. Far and away the most creatively rewarding challenge of my career.
As a huge fan of Modest Mouse, I was honored to serve as the Scenic Art Director for the band’s first single from their album Strangers to Ourselves. In addition to helping set the stage for various scenes, I was responsible for setting the and lighting the titular lampshades on fire in the river. When director Jorge Torres-Torres asked if there was anything that should be included in the music video, I suggested that my partner, Costume & Makeup Art Director Amy Everson, slap me in the face with a milkfish. Not one of my brighter ideas.
